How to Play Four in a Row – Kaboom
Objective: Be the first to connect four of your pieces in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—on a 7×6 grid, while navigating the explosive Kaboom squares!
Players: You (Red pieces) vs. the Computer (Yellow pieces).
Game Setup:
- The game is played on a 7-column, 6-row grid.
- Pieces are placed directly on the grid, unlike classic Four in a Row they don’t fall into place.
- The first move must be in the center of the grid (row 4, column 4).
- All subsequent moves must be adjacent to an existing piece (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally).
- There are 4 hidden Kaboom squares randomly placed on the board. When a piece lands on a Kaboom square, it triggers an explosive effect!
How to Play:
- First Move:
- The first player (Red) must place their piece in the center of the grid (row 4, column 4).
- Your Turn (Red):
- Click on any empty cell that is adjacent to an existing piece to place a red piece.
- If you land on a Kaboom square it will go KABOOM and the cell will turn gray to mark it as exploded.
- If it’s not a Kaboom square, your piece stays in place.
- Computer’s Turn (Yellow):
- The computer will place a yellow piece in an empty cell that is adjacent to an existing piece.
- The same Kaboom rules apply: if it hits a Kaboom square, the piece disappears with an explosion, and the cell turns gray.
- Winning:
- Connect four of your pieces (red for you, yellow for the computer) in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—to win.
- If the board fills up without a winner, the game ends in a tie.
- Kaboom Squares:
- There are 4 Kaboom squares hidden on the board.
- When a piece lands on a Kaboom square, it goes Kaboom!, the piece disappears, and the cell turns gray.
- The gray cell can still be used for future moves, but the Kaboom effect only triggers once per square.
- Resetting:
- Click the “Reset Game” button at any time to start a new game with a fresh board and new Kaboom squares.
Tips:
- Watch out for Kaboom squares—they can disrupt your strategy by removing your piece!
- The computer is smart: it will try to win or block you, so plan your moves carefully.
- Since moves must be adjacent, control key areas of the board to limit the computer’s options.
Have fun and watch out for the Kaboom!
