How to Play: Song & Band Word Search

The Objective: The goal is to guess the hidden song title from the given band/singer by finding the words from the title in the word search grid.

How to Play:

1. Start Your Game
   • Begin by choosing one or more Genres and/or Decades to narrow down the music selection.
   • If you don’t choose any categories, a puzzle will be chosen randomly from all available songs.
   • Click the “Start Game” button to begin.
2. Understand the Game Screen
   • Band/Singer (Left Panel): This is your main clue! The song you need to find is by this artist.
   • Song Title (Right Panel): This area shows underscores representing the letters of the hidden song title. This is the puzzle you are trying to solve.
   • Word Search Grid (Right Panel): The letters in the grid are hidden at the start. You must reveal them to find the words.
   • Letters Section (Left Panel): This shows you all the unique letters that appear in the song title. You can click these buttons to get hints.
3. Two Ways to Solve the Puzzle
   • Method 1: Reveal Letters for Hints
     • You have a limited number of reveals, shown by the counter (e.g., (0 of 15 used)).
     • Clicking a letter button in the “Letters Section” uses one reveal.
     • When you reveal a letter, it will appear in two places:
       1. It will fill in the corresponding blanks in the Song Title.
       2. It will become visible everywhere it exists in the Word Search Grid.
     • This is the primary way to make letters appear in the grid so you can find words.
   • Method 2: Find Words in the Grid
     • Once you can see a complete word in the grid (e.g., “LOVE”), you need to select it.
     • To select a word, click the first letter of the word, then click the last letter of that same word.
     • Words can be hidden in any direction: forwards, backwards, up, down, and diagonally.
     • If you are correct, the word will be fully revealed in the Song Title list, and its letters in the grid will be highlighted in green.
4. Winning the Game
   • You win by finding all the words from the song title in the grid. A “You Won!” message will appear, and your score will be automatically saved if you are logged in.

Tips & Tricks

“New Game (Change Options)” will take you back to the main screen to select new categories.

Word Direction: Remember that words can be spelled in all 8 directions, not just left-to-right!

Strategic Reveals: Since your reveals are limited, think about which letters to use. Revealing common vowels (A, E, I, O, U) can often uncover large parts of the puzzle at once.

Button Functions:

“New Puzzle” will start another game using the same genre/decade filters you already selected.
