Our online version brings this timeless game to your fingertips with multiple ways to play, from challenging our smart AI to competing with friends anywhere in the world.

This guide will cover everything you need to know, from the basic rules to the unique features of our game.

The Objective: How to Win at 4 in a Row

The goal of 4 in a Row is simple yet strategic: Be the first player to connect four of your colored discs in a single line.

This winning line can be:

  • Horizontal: Four discs side-by-side.
  • Vertical: Four discs stacked on top of each other in any column.
  • Diagonal: Four discs connected in a diagonal line.

Sounds easy, right? The challenge comes from blocking your opponent while simultaneously building your own winning lines.

The Basic Rules: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. The Game Board: The game is played on a 7-column by 6-row vertical grid.
  2. Taking Turns: Players take turns dropping one of their colored discs from the top into any of the seven columns.
  3. Gravity is Key: The disc will fall to the lowest available empty space within that column. You cannot place a disc in a floating position; it must stack on top of another disc or the bottom of the grid.
  4. Winning the Game: The first player to achieve a line of four of their discs wins the round!
  5. Ending in a Draw: If the entire grid is filled with discs and neither player has achieved a line of four, the game is a draw.
